During the Tuesday afternoon City of Centre Council Meeting, Mayor Mark Mansfield brought forth Broadcaster/Owner of WEIS Radio Jerry Baker to inform the Council about the Shop at Home campaign.
Baker told the Council everything was the same as last year, including the price of their advertising. The Council approved $3,400 for adverting in November and December.
Next on the agenda, Mansfield brought up Cyndi Day to address the Council about Christmas on the Main. Day informed the Council there will be a live Nativity Scene on Main Street. The City of Centre will supply the fake snow and the Chamber will supply the stage. It was confirmed the event will take place on Thursday, December 19 from 5-7 p.m.
Mayor Mansfield also brought up Dan Bevels, Director of Community Health at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. Bevels spoke about how well the hospital in Cherokee County is doing. They are beginning to renovate the woman’s imagery 3-D mammography. Diagnosis will be in a 24-hour period. They plan to open that center in the first quarter of 2025 at the cost of $1.2 million.
Bevels also informed the Council the heart and vascular center should open in 2025 at the cost of $1.7 million. This will be a premier cardiac rehab facility.
The Council re-appointed Conrad Reed and Jay Jordan to the Regional Airport Authority in 3-year terms and re-appointed Frankie Powell to a 6-year term on the Centre Planning Commission.
The Council was also informed by Mayor Mansfield and Fire Chief Robert Pace the emergency equipment professional invoice for repairs on engine number 14 will be $54,739.70. The Council approved this unanimously.
The Council then approved the Centre Police Department to purchase a Chevy Silverado 1500 Truck for $71,367.50. This was budgeted and approved by Council.
The next City of Centre Council meeting will be Tuesday, November 5.
