Alabama Man Arrested In Connection with a 24-Year-Old Walker County, Georgia Murder Case

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Walker County Sheriff’s Office – recently held a press conference to announce developments in a Murder Case from 2020; and the GBI announced the arrest of an Alabama man, in the murder investigation of Julie Ann McDonald.  Julie’s body was discovered in her home on June 11th 2000. The GBI said, “GBI agents and Walker County investigators – have worked diligently to find justice for Julie’s death”.

On Thursday, August 22nd (2024) – at around 11:30am the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Clarence George in Birmingham, Alabama.  On Sunday, June 11th of 2000 the body of Julie McDonald was discovered in her home on Arnold Lane in nearby Lafayette, Georgia.   The Walker County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to assist in the Murder investigation; both agencies worked diligently to solve the case but were unable to at that time.

Between 2023 and 2024 – a Walker County Lieutenant, and a GBI Special Agent, re-examined the case and retested evidence in the investigation.  The efforts of the detectives, and also the GBI agents, led to those Murder and Aggravated Assault charges on Clarence George.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham, Alabama where he is awaiting extradition back to Georgia for the charges.
