CHATTOOGAVILLE– The Burke family needs community support after a Chattoogaville house fire destroyed its home, vehicles, and belongings.

The fire broke out late Saturday night at a residence on Rowlls Road. According to WZQZ News, everyone inside escaped safely.

Firefighters from Chattoogaville, Holland, Lyerly, and Hays responded after the call went out around 11:58 Saturday night. However, the residence and the family’s vehicles were total losses.

Still, investigators have not announced what caused the fire.

Afterward, the American Red Cross of Georgia sent Northwest Georgia Chapter volunteers to help the family. The Disaster Action Team responded Sunday morning and assisted 13 people, including 11 children.

Additionally, the Red Cross provided direct financial assistance and recovery planning for immediate needs.

Meanwhile, local organizers began collecting clothing, shoes, diapers, school supplies, and other necessities.

Flourish Foster Care Closet & Support, Inc. is coordinating the community effort through The Well at 141 West Washington Street in Summerville. The facility occupies the former Son Rise Church building behind the Chattooga County Courthouse.

Current requested items include diapers in sizes 3T, 4T, and 5T, plus overnight maxi pads. Organizers also need new underwear for children and adults, school clothing, school supplies, and shoes for all family members.

Organizers request girls’ clothing in sizes 2T, 3T, 5T, and 10/12. They need boys’ clothing in sizes 4T, 14, and 16.

The family needs men’s pants in sizes 32/34 and 34/34. Women’s needs include medium shirts, size 8 jeans, and clothing in sizes 2X and 3X.

Because needs can change quickly, donors should call April at 706-331-1963 before delivering items. Donors may also use the same number to arrange financial assistance for the family.

The Well serves children, young people, and families affected by foster care throughout Northwest Georgia. In addition, Flourish is developing the Summerville facility as a support and education hub for the foster care community.

For now, community members can make the greatest difference by confirming the latest needs and giving through the coordinated collection effort.
