Mr. Charles Wynn Davis, age 93, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Monday, January 29th, 2024 at Huntsville Health & Rehabilitation.
His funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, February 2nd at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with nephew Harry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12 PM until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances E. Davis; sons, C. Paul Davis (wife Dianne), J. Mark Davis and Stephen M. Davis (wife Betsy); 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Beman Major Davis, his mother Lillian Mae Ferguson Davis, brothers James Byron Davis and Wallace Beman Davis and sisters Melba Davis Laney and Sara Ruth Davis Formby.
Pallbearers will include grandsons and great grandsons Stephen Davis, Jr., Daniel Davis, Michael Davis, Isaiah Davis, Carter Posey and Joe Conn. Honorary Pallbearers will include the Nurses and Staff of Huntsville Health and Rehabilitation as well as Hospice of North Alabama.
Mr. Davis was a native of Rock Run, AL. He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) as well as Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. For ten years, he served as founding president of Brewer State Junior College in Alabama (now Bevill State Community College) and received a Doctorate of Humanities degree from Livingston University (now Univ. of West Alabama) in recognition of his leadership at Brewer State, as president of the Alabama Junior College Council of Presidents and for his role in helping to establish the junior college system in Alabama.
However, most of his life was spent in Christian ministry, serving as pastor of several churches including Fayette First Baptist, Fayette, AL, Grace Church, Tuscaloosa, AL and Highland Baptist Church, Waco, TX. He served as missionary to Costa Rica, Venezuela and Chile and travelled to many other countries of the world, preaching, teaching and training missionaries.
Mr. Davis was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church.
