Four Spring Garden boys reach double figures in 59-43 victory over JCA; Lady Panthers cruise to win

SPRING GARDEN – Four Spring Garden boys basketball players reached double figures, led by John Welsh’s 17 points, in the Panthers’ 59-43 area basketball win over visiting Jacksonville Christian on Tuesday night.

Jake Welsh added 14 points for the Panthers (13-3). Noah Barber sank three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and had 11 points. Chapel Pope posted 10 points. Cole Bailey finished with six points.

Noah Lee topped the Thunder with 21 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Jesse Gannaway came away with 13 points. Bryson Dowdey finished with six points.

Spring Garden held a 14-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 26-15 at halftime. The Panthers maintained a 41-30 edge after three quarters.

In girls action, Libby Brown led four Spring Garden Lady Panthers in double figures with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 77-21 area basketball rout over visiting Jacksonville Christian on Tuesday.

Brown also had four steals and two assists for the Lady Panthers (18-1). Olivia Law posted 13 points, five steals, three assists, two blocks. Chloe Rule contributed 12 points, three rebounds and a block. Maggie Jarrett managed 12 points, including two 3-pointers, along with five steals, three rebounds, two assists.

Maggie Reedy collected nine points, two rebounds and two assists. Ace Austin added eight points, eight assists, seven steals and three blocks. Avery Steward finished with five points, three assists and two steals.

Spring Garden jumped out to a 28-8 first-quarter lead and led 50-8 at the break.

Both Spring Garden teams host Coosa Christian on Thursday.
