TCC tops Trojans in Gaylesville Christmas Classic

GAYLESVILLE – Shanijah Smith scored a game-high 29 points and Dailani Farroh added 11 points as Talladega County Central held off the Gaylesville Lady Trojans 45-38 in the Gaylesville Christmas Classic on Thursday.

Emma Givens sank four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Lady Trojans. Gracie Dawson delivered 10 points. Lydia Reynolds managed six points and Jayden Dobbins finished with five points and six assists.

Gaylesville tied the game at 38 late in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers went on a 7-0 run in the final 1:09 to take the win.

The Lady Trojans led 7-5 at the end of the first quarter, but TCC went ahead in the second 25-20 and maintained a 32-27 lead after three quarters.

TCC advances to face Westbrook Christian on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Gaylesville battles Victory Christian at 10 a.m.

In boys action, Kendarius Hickman connected on five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points to lead TCC to a 66-42 win over the Trojans.

The Tigers sank nine treys in the game. Dailon Keith added 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Thomas Gooden and Marquell Johnson both netted nine points. Patrick Dosius scored eight points. Jhovi Cole finished with five points.

Kyler Bradley scored a game-high 28 points for Gaylesville, including six 3-pointers. He also had six steals. Collin Hendon had seven points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Tigers led 15-11 after one, then went on a 20-6 run in the second to take a 35-17 edge. TCC held a 53-29 edge after three quarters.

TCC takes on Fyffe at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Gaylesville faces Valley Head at 11:15 a.m.
