A Center Point woman was killed – in a weekend Blount County crash that also injured two teens.
Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Zyra C. Sharpe. She was 37. The wreck happened at 6:25pm Saturday on Old Compton Road near Red Valley Road, about four miles south of Remlap. According to Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey, Zyra Sharpe was a passenger in a 2005 Honda Accord that left the road and struck multiple trees. Bailey said she was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash; she was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver, 19-year-old Abel Sharpe, also of Center Point, was injured and taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. An 18-year-old passenger – whose name hasn’t been released – was taken to another hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by State Troopers.
