Cherokee County splits volleyball matches with Piedmont, Geraldine

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors split a pair of home volleyball matches on Tuesday. They rallied to defeat Piedmont in three sets 23-25, 25-19 and 15-11, then lost to Geraldine 25-27, 21-25.

Against Piedmont, Macy Lea managed 16 assists, two kills, four digs and an ace. Raegan Garmany gained four kills and an assist. Ava Haygood posted nine kills and five aces. Ellisan Givens delivered nine digs, three assists and an ace. Emilee Paul came away with five digs, two aces and an assist. Nevaeh Gaidurgis collected four kills, four digs, a block and two assists. Leila Connell finished with six digs.

In the loss to Geraldine, Lea collected 16 assists, two kills, a block and a dig. Garmany contributed seven kills. Haygood had six kills, seven digs and three aces. Libby Curry came away with nine digs and a kill. Givens accumulated eight digs, an ace and two assists. Gaidurgis finished with five kills, four digs, a block and an assist.

The Lady Warriors (4-4) also played Geraldine in a tournament over the weekend and lost 21-25, 23-25. They defeated Pleasant Valley 25-18, 19-25 and 17-15, lost to Fairview 23-25, 25-19, 12-15, then lost to Guntersville in the gold bracket semifinals to Guntersville 23-25, 17-25.

For the tournament, Lea collected 76 assists, seven digs, five blocks and three kills. Garmany posted 21 kills, eight blocks, five digs and two assists. Haygood contributed 16 kills, four blocks, three aces and 10 digs. Curry came away with 10 kills, 10 digs and an ace. Givens managed 40 digs, two kills and five assists. Gaidurgis gained 33 kills, five blocks, 20 digs, six aces and six assists.

Cherokee County hosts Ashville and Douglas on Sept. 7.
