All Vacancies Are Filled In Cedar Bluff
During the Cedar Bluff Town Council meeting taking place on Monday afternoon the Council Appointed Jeremy Stepps to be the Cedar Bluff Police Chief. District 1 Council Seat that had been vacated by resignation of the Council Member, was filled with the appointment of Bonida Scott as the Council Member to fill that position. The vacancy on the Utility Board was filled with the appointment of Bill Warren to serve the remainder of the term left by the resignation of the previous member.
In the Police Department report, Chief Stepps said the department patrolled 6321 miles, issued 30 warning tickets, issued 76 traffic citations, made 3 felony arrests, served 2 warrants, issued 15 incident and offense reports, answered two crime tip calls and turned suspect over to the Cherokee County Sheriff Department for prosecution and opened 1 investigation into a burglary. The night shift officers made 6480 business checks.
In the Fire Department report, the department answered 1 fire call, 1 crop fire, answered 3 medical calls, worked 2 auto accidents, had 1 false alarm call, and 2 special type of incident calls.
The Council approved $17519.70 for the purchase of 6 handheld radios for police officers. The department only has 2 working units now. The amount will be paid from the general fund from the Police budget.
3 vehicles were declared as surplus and will be sold. 2-2013 Tahoes from the Police department and a 2020 F150 Ford Pickup which is from the police department as well. Chief Stepps said he hopes to get enough from the 3 vehicles to purchase a new Chevrolet Tahoe for the department.
An expenditure of $3300 was approved for the street and sanitation department to purchase 50 new garbage cans and 100 new lids for the garbage cans.
The Council voted to adopt a resolution naming the first Saturday in October as David and Pat Hartline Day in the Town of Cedar Bluff. This is in Support of his nomination for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The Council voted to transfer the Alcohol License to the new owners of the Weiss Mart.
