Piedmont blanks Glencoe 2-0 for state softball tournament berth

ALBERTVILLE – The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs earned the second qualifier spot from the Class 3A East Softball Regional on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Glencoe at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville.

The game was picked up from Wednesday evening’s thunderstorm delay. The Lady Bulldogs scored single runs in the top of the first and second innings.

Cayla Brothers led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a pair of hits, including a triple. She also scored a run. Armoni Perry also posted a pair of hits. Sarah Goss added a hit and a run. Jaycee Glover drove in a run.

Savannah Smith picked up the win in the circle. She went the distance, giving up four hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Piedmont lost to regional champion Plainview 4-0 on Wednesday and defeated Glencoe earlier in the tournament 12-0. The Lady Bulldogs opened the regional with a 16-1 victory over Susan Moore.

Piedmont will play in the state tournament at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park next Wednesday.
