Mrs. Doris “Dot” Janette Culpeper

Mrs. Doris “Dot” Janette Culpeper was born January 5, 1935 to William Horace Killen and Irene Shaw Killen.  Dot was a graduate of Double Springs High School.  Once she completed high school, she obtained training to be a Master Cosmetologist.  Her career spanned over 40 years, and while in Rome, Georgia she owned her own beauty salon.  Eventually, she sold her salon, but she continued to work for many additional years taking care of her clients.

On September 10, 1954, she married Roland Culpeper of Cedar Bluff, Alabama.  Roland’s career with GE kept them in Rome, Georgia.  Once they both retired, they returned to Cedar Bluff to enjoy retirement in the Culpeper family home.  After Roland’s death in 2013, Dot moved to Haleyville, Alabama to be closer to her family.  While in Haleyville she attended the First Methodist Church.  In the spring of 2022, Dot relocated to Hoover, Alabama to live closer to her nephew and his wife, Chris and Jessica Hallmark, who served as her caregivers in her final days.

Dot is survived by her brother Jack (Vicki) Killen, sisters, Penny Ford, Maxine Cook, and Betty Spann, sister-in-law Joyce Killen, and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Hurley Culpeper; sister, Elizabeth Cobb; and brother, William “Bill” Killen, Jr.

Graveside service will be held at 2pm, Friday May 10th, 2023 at Unity Cemetery in Cedar Bluff, Alabama.
