Piedmont pounds its way to East Softball Regional championship round

ALBERTVILLE – The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs wasted little time disposing of Susan Moore and Glencoe on Tuesday in the Class 3A East Softball Regional in Albertville.

They crushed Susan Moore 16-1 in four innings and followed that up by blanking Glencoe 12-0 in five to reach Wednesday’s championship round against top-ranked Plainview. That game is scheduled for 10:45 a.m.

In the win over Susan Moore, Jenna Calvert collected four hits and four RBIs. Abby Baird added two hits, including a double, with two runs and three RBIs. Armoni Perry and Savannah Smith both added a pair of hits, including a double apiece, with two runs and two RBIs. Carson Young contributed a hit and a RBI. Jaycee Glover managed a hit and a run.

Sarah Goss scored twice and drove in a run. Cacey Brothers also scored a pair of runs. Cayla Brothers scored once and drove in a run. Amarae Champion scored twice. Kaelyn Green and Cadence Buttram both scored a run.

Young earned the win in the circle. She tossed all four innings and gave up an earned run on four hits with no walks and a strikeout.

In the win over Glencoe, Calvert collected three hits, including a triple. She also scored a run and drove in two.

Perry posted two hits, a run and a RBI. Young also collected two hits, a run and three RBIs. Smith added a pair of hits and scored a run.

Cacey Brothers tripled and drove in two runs. Glover also contributed a hit and two RBIs. Goss had a hit and scored three runs. Ava Pope finished with a hit and a RBI. Morgan Studdard and Baird both scored a run.

Smith earned the win after working all five innings. She gave up three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.
