20 Year Prison Sentence Handed Down Monday

A woman was sentenced to 20 years in state prison Monday in the slaying of another woman found in a north Alabama ditch nearly two years ago.

According to court records, Leslie Kay Sims, age 41, of Albertville, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February in the death of 32-year-old Jana Miller Chatman, records showed.  Chatman’s body along with her vehicle were found in a ditch on Dixie Dale Circle in Albertville on Nov. 5, 2021 after police responded to a report of an accident at that location.

Chatman was pronounced dead on the scene. Several shell casings were also found at the scene, police said at the time.

On Monday, Marshall County Circuit Court Judge Christopher F. Abel sentenced Sims to 20 years in state prison.
