PIEDMONT – Savannah Smith no-hit Weaver and struck out 13 batters along the way in leading the Piedmont Lady Bulldogs to an 11-0 victory over Weaver to clinch the Class 3A, Area 10 softball title on Tuesday.
Smith also tripled and drove in a run at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs. Jenna Calvert tripled, doubled, scored two runs and drove in three more. Armoni Perry also posted a pair of hits, including a double, with a run and a RBI.
Cayla Brothers homered and had two RBIs. Carson Young doubled and scored a run. Sarah Goss contributed a hit, two runs and a RBI. Cacey Brothers posted a hit and two RBIs. Emma Grace Todd finished with a hit.
Piedmont secured its championship berth with a 13-0 victory over Wellborn in earlier tournament action on Tuesday.
Perry blasted a grand slam for the Lady Bulldogs. She went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. Smith was 4-for-4 with a triple and a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Goss tripled, doubled and scored three runs. Calvert contributed a pair of hits, a run and three RBIs. Jaycee Glover went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Ava Pope posted a hit and two runs. Abby Baird finished with a hit and a RBI. Cayla Brothers drove in a run.
Todd tallied the win. She allowed just three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Piedmont will play in the East Regional at Albertville beginning on Tuesday.
