Cherokee County splits Class 4A, Area 10 basketball games at White Plains

WHITE PLAINS – Cherokee County split a pair of Class 4A, Area 10 basketball games at White Plains on Tuesday night. The Lady Warriors earned a 52-34 victory, while the Warrior boys fell short by the final of 55-52.

In the girls game, Mary Hayes Johnson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Lady Warriors (17-6). Audrey Haygood added 14 points and Nevaeh Gaidurgis finished with 12 points.

Cassidy Arnold also had a pair of treys and rang for 12 points to lead White Plains. Hallie Williams tossed in 11 points. Isabella Higgins and Cooper Martin finished with six and five points respectively.

The Lady Warriors led throughout the game. They held a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 34-23 advantage at halftime. Cherokee County extended its lead to 48-27 after three quarters.

In the nightcap, Jaden Wilson netted 18 points and Jack Amos amassed 16 points, including four 3-pointers, but they weren’t enough for the Warriors.

Malachi Horton had 10 points and Eli Martin finished with six points for Cherokee County.

Luke Bussey topped the Wildcats with 11 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Joshua Wheeler added 10 points. Paul Laube had eight points. Dylan Barksdale and Carter Johnson both scored six points. Daniel Williams finished with five points.

The Warriors led 15-14 at the end of one, but White Plains rallied to take a 26-23 advantage at halftime. The Wildcats maintained a 37-36 edge at the end of three quarters and held on in the fourth for the final.

Cherokee County hosts Etowah on Thursday.
