Temperatures, as expected, plunged overnight after an arctic cold front passed through the state.
There were single-digit temperatures across north Alabama as of Friday morning, with winds making it feel even colder.
Wind chill warnings and advisories continue for much of the state as well as hard freeze warnings.
Most of Alabama will be under wind chill warnings or advisories until noon today. The areas in purple will also be under hard freeze warnings.

The weather service in Huntsville got reports of snow flurries and some snow showers overnight, but so far hasn’t reported any major accumulations.
Weather services across the state have reported sporadic downed trees and some power outages as gusty winds behind the front took hold.
It will continue to be breezy and very, very cold today across Alabama. But skies will clear and the sun will be out.
High temperatures will range from the teens in north and north-central Alabama to the low to mid-20s in central Alabama to the upper 20s to low 30s in south Alabama (today’s forecast highs are at the top of this post).
Tonight will again be bitterly cold, possibly a few degrees colder than this morning, with single-digit lows possible again for north and north-central Alabama.
Saturday, Christmas Eve, is expected to be a bit warmer but still very cold across Alabama, and hard freeze warnings will still be in effect for the southern two-thirds of the state.

Hang in there, warmer weather is on the way. Alabama is forecast to gradually warm up by a few degrees each day and will be in the 50s and 60s again by Wednesday.
Here are some of the warnings and advisories for Alabama as of Friday:
* Wind chill warnings: For North Alabama and north-central Alabama until noon Friday. Wind chills could be as low as 10 to 20 degrees below zero during the morning and zero to 10 below during the late morning into afternoon hours.
* Wind chill advisories: For most of central Alabama, southwest Alabama and southeast Alabama until noon Saturday. Wind chills could be as low as 5 degrees below zero.
* Hard freeze warnings: For central, southwest and southeast Alabama until Sunday morning.
