Recently Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Deputies spent a good part of the day training on the Chattooga River with instructors from the Georgia Canoeing Association.
Sheriff Mark Schrader purchased kayaks to be used for river rescue.
The sheriff said that since there was no longer a Chattooga County Rescue Squad, and since the Chattooga River is seeing increased river traffic, he felt that his department should be capable of river rescue in the event of an emergency. Officers spent several hours on the water learning maneuvering skills and rope rescue techniques.
