A high-speed chase conducted by state troopers in Etowah County Wednesday evening led to evidence regarding a homicide in Blount County.
A trooper was working a construction zone on I-59 in Etowah County, when he observed a woman running through traffic; the trooper attempted to make contact with the individual but lost sight of her.
Shortly thereafter, a motorist told the officer that a pickup truck had sideswiped his vehicle and then fled the scene.
The truck was soon spotted, however the driver refused to pull over and the ensuing chase stretched for more than ten miles, finally coming to an end, when troopers deployed spike strips near a rest area at the 169 mile marker in St. Clair County.
At that point, the two male occupants of the truck were taken into custody without incident
Upon further investigation, troopers reportedly obtained information regarding a murder, which had apparently occurred in Blount County. At that point, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and informed of the situation.
The Troopers did return to the construction zone in Etowah County where they eventually made contact with the woman seen running, and it was soon determined that she had been an occupant of the pickup truck at some point.
No additional information is being released at this time – that investigation is being turned over to the sheriff’s office in Blount County for investigation.
