A popular Alabama band tribute group called “Boys in the Band” recently took to the stage at the DeSoto Theater in Ft Payne in a special concert to raise money for mental health awareness; the group performed the scheduled show despite having tragically lost one of their own members just a few weeks before.
Marcus Mullins, who played fiddle and lead guitar for the tribute group – reportedly passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was a former Sergeant in the U.S. Army, was a Biomedical Engineer and an Audio Engineer, who resided in Nashville. The band decided to go ahead with that planned concert – which raised over $30,000 for the The SAM Foundation – an organization advocating for suicide prevention, and mental health awareness.
In front of a packed house that night, the band was surprised when both Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry of the group Alabama arrived, and came on stage to perform some of their biggest hits with the band. Randy Owen thanked the crowd for attending, and for their support.
