SAND ROCK – Sand Rock junior quarterback Ace Ashley threw three touchdown passes, two of which went to sophomore running back Jacob Cornejo, in the Wildcats’ 28-13 scrimmage win over North Sand Mountain on Thursday night.
Following a Bradley Jackson fumble recovery on North Sand Mountain’s opening drive, Ashley put the Wildcats up 7-0 on a 38-yard touchdown pass to Cornejo in the first quarter.
The Bison countered with an 8-play, 65-yard drive capped by running back Joshua Farmer’s 1-yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good, keeping the score at 7-6 Sand Rock.
Ashley threw his second touchdown pass to Cornejo on the Wildcats’ next drive. This one went for four yards, and it put Sand Rock on top 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Following a Bison punt, Trace Haygood scored on a 38-yard touchdown run to increase Sand Rock’s lead to 21-6.
The Wildcat defense came up with another turnover on North Sand Mountain’s next drive. Heath Driver recovered a Farmer fumble, and three plays later, Ashley connected with Driver for a 53-yard touchdown to make the score 28-6.
Nyle Poore put the Bison back on the board with his 62-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter for the final.

Spring Garden 12, North Sand Mountain 0
Spring Garden senior quarterback Chaz Pope tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Cooper Austin in the first quarter, and junior receiver Cam Welsh added a 3-yard touchdown run in the second, leading Spring Garden to a 12-0 scrimmage win over North Sand Mountain on Thursday night.
The Panthers got the ball first and marched 65 yard in 14 plays, capped by the Pope-to-Austin touchdown. Following a Bison punt, Spring Garden scored again on a 9-play, 62-yard drive capped by Welsh’s touchdown for the final.
Plainview 20, Spring Garden 6
Andrew Hall scored two rushing touchdown to lead the Plainview Bears past Spring Garden 20-6 in scrimmage action on Thursday night.
Braiden Thomas put Plainview on top 7-0 with a touchdown run in the first quarter.
Spring Garden later scored on Pope’s 32-yard scamper, but the extra point failed, keeping the Bears in front 7-6.
Hall accounted for the scrimmage’s final two touchdowns. He had a 60-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to push Plainview’s lead to 14-6, and later added a 31-yard scoring run for the final.
Plainview 14, Cedar Bluff 0
Plainview forced three Cedar Bluff turnovers in a 14-0 victory over the Tigers in scrimmage action Thursday.
Thomas put the Bears in front on their opening drive with a 31-yard touchdown run. After a Tiger punt, Levi Brown’s 51-yard scamper put Plainview in the red zone at Cedar Bluff’s 7-yard line.
Quarterback Noah White took in from there to increase the Bear lead to 14-0, which ended up being the final.
Preston Burt and Kade Browning both recovered a fumble for the Tigers.
Plainview B-Team 8, Cedar Bluff 7
Plainview’s B-team capped Thursday’s jamboree with an 8-7 win over Cedar Bluff in the scrimmage’s final two minutes.
Cedar Bluff took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on senior quarterback Jacob Burleson’s 70-yard touchdown toss to junior receiver Bucky Leek.
The Bears capped the scoring on Gavin Brown’s 14-yard touchdown catch and ensuing 2-point conversion with 1:57 to go for the final.
