HOLLYWOOD– Helix Electric has broken ground on a $45.3 million manufacturing facility in Jackson County that will create 160 jobs.
Gov. Kay Ivey announced the project Tuesday, Oct. 27. The California-based electrical contractor plans an Advanced Fabrication Campus in Hollywood to serve construction and industrial projects.
The new campus will manufacture prefabricated electrical components and large modular electrical assemblies, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce. For example, products will include underground duct banks, duct bank risers, hangers, electrical devices, and modular electrical skids.
The facility will also expand the company’s manufacturing capabilities closer to its existing teams and East Coast customers.
Investment and Jobs for Northeast Alabama
Ivey said the investment reflects confidence in Alabama’s workforce, infrastructure, and business climate. She also said the project represents meaningful opportunities for families and continued economic growth in the region.
Helix Electric CEO Boris Shekhter described the project as a long-term commitment to Jackson County.
“We are making a long-term commitment to the people, the families and the future of this region,” Shekhter said.
In addition, Shekhter praised the community’s workforce and local leaders’ commitment to lasting development.
Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the project’s benefits could extend beyond the 160 jobs at the facility. Local contractors, suppliers, and small businesses could also gain opportunities from the investment, she said.
McNair also said the campus could help residents build careers closer to home.
Part of Alabama’s Rural Development Strategy
The project aligns with the metals and advanced materials strategy in Catalyst, Commerce’s 10-year economic development plan. Jackson County is also a designated Target County in the state’s efforts to attract investment and jobs to rural communities.
The Tennessee Valley Authority and North Alabama Electric Cooperative welcomed the groundbreaking. TVA Vice President for Economic Development Heidi Smith also credited partnerships with the cooperative, Jackson County EDA, and Commerce.
State Sen. Steve Livingston described the investment as a major economic development milestone for Northeast Alabama. He also said the project would benefit residents and communities for decades.
Nathan Lee, president and CEO of the Jackson County Economic Development Authority, welcomed Helix Electric as a corporate partner. He said the investment and jobs would create career opportunities and stimulate the local economy for years to come.
