The Cherokee County School Board held their first meeting of 2021, also the first for newly elected Superintendent of Education Mike Welsh.

State Representative Ginny Shaver was among those in attendance during the meeting and brought with her a sizeable contribution for Cherokee County Schools.

In other business the board also approved the adoption of a Virtual School Attendance Policy; in addition to approving to extend FFCRA Leave through March 31st. Also approved was a Virtual and Instructional Planning Stipend in the amount of $27.50 per hour for certified teachers for up to (2) hours per week through May 28th to be funded by the CARES/ESSER Budget.

A list of school buses were also approved a surplus.

A motion was approved declaring the sound system project for Cherokee County High Schools gym, football stadium and weight room as a public works project and will be funded by the Safety Allocation.

Bids for lawn care and Centre Elementary and Sand Rock Schools in addition to a plasma cutting system for the Cherokee County Career & Tech School were also approved.
