During a very brief meeting on Tuesday, the Piedmont City Council approved the purchase of a new pickup truck for the city’s Fire Department.
After receiving two bids, the council chose the higher bid of $41,899 from Buster Mile Chevrolet, versus the low bid of $41,645 from an Albertville dealer. Officials say the decision was made to save on maintenance by choosing the closer dealership.
“We’d save that on mileage alone,” said Chief Mike Ledbetter.
Ledbetter said it will also cost about $3,000 to fully equip the truck with the necessary emergency equipment.
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 will be used by Ledbetter, and will be purchased and equipped using the city’s fire tax fund.
In other business, bills for payment were approved in the amount of $723,521.94.
The council also wished good luck to the Piedmont Bulldog football team, as they play in the Class 3A State Championship this Thursday at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn.
The next regular Piedmont City Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 17th, immediately following the work session, which is set for 5:30pm.
