OLAN KENNEDY ANTHONY, known to many as OK Anthony, age 88 of Centre, Al passed away Monday August 19th at The Palms of Sebring in Sebring, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 3 pm Saturday August 24th at Providence Baptist Church, Centre, Al. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm at the church prior to the service.
The burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors Include: daughter, Donna and son-in-law Marlon Pendergrass of Zolfo Springs, FL, grandson Jake Pendergrass also of Zolfo Springs, FL and 2 nieces. He has numerous cousins and a large extended family
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Johnnie Smith Anthony, Parents Oren and Rose Anthony, Sisters Lamell Gresham and Louise Minshew & Special friend and caregiver, Faye Anthony.
Olan Anthony was a native of Cherokee County and a Member of Providence Baptist Church.
He was a 1949 graduate of Cherokee County High School and played football on the Cherokee County H. S. Warriors Team. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University with a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry. He also earned a Masters from The University of Tennessee and The University of Alabama in Vocational Rehabilitation.
He served in the U.S. Air Force 5th Communication Group from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. There he served as a Cryptographer stationed in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea. He retired from Disability Determination Services as an Initial Unit Supervisor in Birmingham, AL where he loved his Job and his work family. After having a devastating stroke in July 2000 that left him with limitations… He was still able to fulfill his retirement plans with the help and care from his caregiver, (SPECIAL ANGEL), Faye Anthony. With her trusted help, he was able to travel the country, garden, eat out daily and follow his favorite Gospel Quartet “The Premiers” all over the country.
