A single-vehicle crash at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30, claimed the life of an Athens man. Darrell E. Meadows, 64, was killed when the 2001 Ford Ranger he was driving left U.S. 72 and struck a utility pole at the 81 mile marker two miles east of Athens.
Meadows was pronounced dead at the scene. Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers continue to investigate.
