Storm timing

Alberto made landfall just west of Panama City Beach at Laguna Beach, Florida Monday afternoon. It will move through Alabama on Tuesday, reaching the northern part of the state by Tuesday night. The storm is expected to reach the central part of the state by 7 a.m. Tuesday with sustained winds of up to 73 mph. By 7 p.m. Tuesday, the storm will leave Alabama and move into Tennessee, with winds of 39 mph or less.

Flooding potential

The biggest threat from the storm is the potential for flooding, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency warned. The eastern half of the state could see as much as 6 inches of rain with isolated spot receiving 8 inches or more. Much of the rain will fall through Tuesday but it will leave behind deep atmospheric moisture leading to numerous showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Two killed in North Carolina

A TV anchor and photojournalist from South Carolina were killed Monday as they were covering heavy rains proceeding Alberto.

Mike McCormick and Aaron Smeltzer were covering rain impacts in the area when they were killed by a falling tree, according to WYFF4.
