Search efforts will resume around 7:00 on Monday morning for the truck that reportedly crashed through a guardrail on the Meighan Bridge in Gadsden before Sunday plunging into the Coosa River Sunday afternoon.  Gadsden Fire Chief Stephen Carroll said witnesses reported the incident as taking place just after 2:00.  It is unclear at this point, authorities said, what the truck’s make or color was, and whether there were one or two people inside.

The truck was reportedly traveling east over the bridge, swerved into the two oncoming lanes of traffic and plummeted into the water. There were no other injuries on the bridge.  Within an hour, boats belonging to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden Fire and Marine Police converged on the scene and attempted to locate the truck in the water. Several times, sonar seemed to indicate the truck’s position, unfortunately the current and the dark waters of the Coosa frustrated the search.

Authorities set up a command post at nearby Coosa Landing, within sight of the search zone, where the search continued until around 8:00pm before being halted until the next  morning.
