Leesburg Teen Booked into Floyd County Jail in Connection with High Speed Pursuit

The Cherokee County teenager involved in a high-speed chase starting in Floyd County, and ending when he was stopped by Cedar Bluff Police back on April 19th has been booked into the Floyd County Jail.

According to jail reports, Chase Riley Keener, age 19 of Leesburg is facing a felony charge of Fleeing/Attempting to Elude – along with Reckless Driving, Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits, Driving without Insurance – and Acquiring a License Plate for Purpose of Concealing the Identification of a Motor Vehicle.

According to PFC Chad Matthews he was running radar on Highway 20 West, near the State Line when he clocked a black Dodge Charger doing 82 in a 55 mph zone.

The driver reportedly refused to pull over for law enforcement and that pursuit began, with the Charger at one point allegedly hitting a top speed of 102 mph; also during the chase, the car reportedly almost struck a log truck and other vehicles before finally being brought to a stop at the intersection of Highway 68 and County Road 75 without incident, by Cedar Bluff Police.

Officer Matthews told WEIS Radio News “…my intentions were to pull him over, and issue a citation that wouldn’t allow any points on his license, but because of the way it unfolded, he is now looking at a felony of attempting to elude.”

The other charges were added afterwards.
