The next era of Centre’s city administration officially began on Monday night with the swearing in of the recently elected mayor and city council.

Tony Wilkie was sworn in for his third term as mayor, with Probate Judge Kirk Day administering the oath of office.

Speaking complimentary of the newly elected council, Wilkie is optimistic that he and the council will be able to work together through any disagreements that may arise in order to do what’s best for the City of Centre, which in turn, he adds, affects the entire county. Wilkie had this to say:

Newcomers Don Cothran, Kay Davis and Cedric Williams join Bess Yarbrough, Harry Moon, Frankie Kelley, and Phillip Roberts to fill out the council, which was also sworn in by Judge Day.

Shortly thereafter, the council conducted its first order of business by administering an organizational meeting, which saw Council Member Bess Yarbrough retain her long-time role as mayor pro-tem. The council then approved various committee appointments, which can be viewed below.

A resolution designating depositories for municipal funds was passed, followed by the vote to pay almost $60,000 in bills.

The council then approved the schedule of regular meetings, which will remain at 6pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Due to the election, there will be no meeting on Tuesday. The next regular meeting is set for Tuesday, November 22^nd at 6pm.

The various committee appointments are as followed:

• Budget Finance Committee: Chairman Bess Yarbrough, Harry Moon, Frankie Kelley.
• Police Department Committee: Chairman Phillip Roberts, Harry Moon, Frankie Kelley.
• Fire Department Committee: Chairman Don Cothran, Kay Davis, Phillip Roberts.
• Sports and Recreation Committee: Chairman Cedric Williams, Kay Davis, Don Cothran.
• Personnel Committee: Chairman Harry Moon, Phillip Roberts, Frankie Kelley.
• Street and Sanitation Committee: Chairman Frankie Kelley, Harry Moon, Phillip Roberts.
• Airport Chairman Committee: Cedric Williams, Kay Davis, Bess Yarbrough.
• Parks and Human Relations Committee: Chairman Kay Davis, Cedric Williams, Don Cothran.
• Buildings and Inspections Committee: Chairman Bess Yarbrough, Don Cothran, Cedric Williams.
