COLLINSVILLE| Friday’s hours will be Noon until 5pm; Saturday’s, 10am-4pm. Tickets, $10 each, will be sold  at the Collinsville Public Library —located in downtown along Main Street  and near the railroad caboose display. 

The Quilt Walk will feature more than 300 antique, “just old,” and  new quilts —most with area connections of ownership or construction. The quilts will be displayed in the library, the Collinsville United Methodist  Church,  three homes a short distance off South Valley Avenue, and in The Booth consignment shop on Main Street. All of the exhibit locations are within walking distance—however, a tram will be available for all persons who do not wish or are not able to walk the ten-block round trip. (The tram will begin and end each trip at the library). A tour of all of the Walk sites generally takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete—though Walkers may visit only the sites of their choice. 

Walk participants may park their vehicles in the library parking lot or along Main Street. There is limited parking near the three homes—however, they are  only one block from the church. (Walkers are welcome to take the tram from the church to the homes).  

In addition to the quilt displays, the Walk will also include an art exhibit on the second floor of the  library. More than 25 artists with Collinsville connections will be showing their own works or collected items. Some of the  artists whose work is for sale will be contributing a percentage of proceeds  to the Collinsville Historical Association—which is currently restoring the Cricket Theatre, a 1946 structure along Main Street. 

A portion of the library’s second floor will be used for the Collinsville Art Café which will offer lunches each Walk day from 10:30am-2pm.  Food prices will  range from $3 to $7, with dessert cupcakes and fried pies at a modest additional  charge.

Previous Quilt Walks have made possible the complete renovation of the first floor of the building in which the library is now housed. (For many years, the library was located in a frame structure near the intersection of U.S. Highway 11 and  Alabama 68; before that period, a room in the local Presbyterian Church held the library’s then small collection).  Proceeds from the 2016 Quilt Walk will be used for the completion of the renovation of the library’s second floor—plus needed equipment updates.
