Mr. James Dewey Moss, Sr. age 78, of Centre, Alabama passed away July 2, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Moss was born December 16, 1937 in Chatom County, Alabama, a son of the late Zachriah D. Moss, and Virginia Odom Moss. Mr. Moss was a retired from the United States Navy with the Rank of Captain, serving on several aircraft carriers, 1955 USS Yorktown, 1958, USS Ranger, 1965-66, USS Lexington, 1967 USS Independence, and in 1968 while serving in Vietnam, was Captain of PBR, boat known has the River Rats. Mr. Moss was a long time member of the McCords Cross Roads Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Coheley Moss, sons, John Darrell (Sabrina) Yates, Centre; James Danny (Peggy) Yates, Centre; J. D. (Frances) Moss, Jr. Centre; brother, Emory Moss, Robetsdale, Al; sister, Magadline Sellers, NC; 3 grandchildren, Cody Yates, Austin Moss, and Jessica Pruitt, 3 great grandchildren, Sissy, Braden, and Sam, several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of Dewey ‘s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. (Ala.Time) Saturday July 9, 2016, at Hopewell Community Centre, at McCord’s Cross Roads, with Rev. Barry Rogers, Jr. officiating.
On at 11:00 AM (Ala time) family would like for everyone to meet at the New McCord’s Cross Road Fire Department where procession in honor of Dewey will start at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be held at the Alabama State Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort , Al. at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday July 12, 2016.
