Spring Commencement Ceremony Set for This Thursday at Gadsden State Cherokee

The Spring Commencement Ceremony for Gadsden State Community College will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at Gadsden State Cherokee.

Featured speakers will be Gadsden State students Chad Wallenstein, Rebecca Barnard and Kerven Allagulyyev.

Wallenstein, a graduate of Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington D.C., is a native of Lansing, Mich. His program of study is Automotive Service Technology. He currently works at Brannon Honda in Birmingham and enjoys working on cars in his spare time.

Barnard is studying Accounting Technology. She is a graduate of Ponder High School in Ponder, Texas. She is the officer manager at Porter Testing Services. Barnard enjoys spending time with family, playing sports and being outdoors. She is a member of the All-Navy Bowling Team.

Allagulyyev is a native of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and is a graduate of Ashgabat Secondary School #51. He is the president of Gadsden State’s chapter of Students Without Borders Club and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. A business administration major, Allagulyyev enjoys running and cooking when he’s not studying.

Graduates will be presented by Dr. Leslie Worthington, dean of Academic Programs and Services, and Tim Green, dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development. Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. The Gadsden State A Capella Choir will perform. Frances S. Vann, a biology instructor, will serve as the Commencement Grand Marshal.
