The Cedar Bluff Town Council held a brief special called meeting on earlier this week in order to take care of some unfinished business that was left after last week’s meeting was prematurely adjourned.
Mayor Tammy Crane called the meeting to order and then made a motion to accept the resignation letter of former Councilman Dewayne Agan who resigned at the previous meeting.
Councilman Norman Burton took just a moment to clear up the rumor mill regarding money being used for park upgrades and to pave the streets within the town.
Also approved was the purchase of new body cameras for the Cedar Bluff Police Department at a cost of $2,106.87. Cedar Bluff Police Chief Steve Walden remarked that the department’s policy and procedures regarding body cams is being upgraded, these procedures must be in place before the cameras are officially put into service.
That motion was unanimously approved.
Mayor also stated that several sections of sidewalk in the Cedar Bluff Park had to be repaired, recent heavy rains had caused several portions of concrete to crack and bow up which became a fall hazard for those that use the walking track, those repairs came in at just over $3,000.
The council also accepted a proposal from Weiss Internet Services for alternate internet services within the town, Mayor Crane said that in exchange for allowing the company to place internet towers on the water tower, they will proved complementary services for town hall as well as the utility board offices, this will be a savings of over $3,000 a year for town hall alone.
The measure passed by a 4-1 margin with Councilwoman Billie Burkhalter voting against the measure, Councilman Norman Burton said that the town needs to be doing everything possible to local businesses and especially those that the top income tax producers.
The town will also begin accepting vendor applications for this year’s Liberty Day Celebration which is slated to take place June 25 in the downtown area.
Mayor Crane also announced that the town has filled two vacant two positions, Ed Hornbuckle as garbage truck driver and Mark Baty as the town maintenance worker.
