Search Continues For Two Suspects Involved in Burglary/Stand-off in Jacksonville

JAX Standoff

Authorities are still searching for two burglary suspects, one of which managed to get away from a Tuesday morning standoff with police in Jacksonville.

Assistant Jacksonville Police Chief Bill Wineman told the Anniston Star, the incident occurred at about 10:00 that morning at a home located in the 900 block of White’s Gap Road when a family member of the homeowner and a friend drove by and noticed an unfamiliar car in the driveway.

When the family member pulled into the driveway, the suspect in the car quickly drove away and a second man emerged from the home, pointing a gun at the two men and the friend of the family member then reportedly fired a shot at the intruder forcing him to run back inside the home.

Jacksonville Police, a SWAT Team, a K-9 Unit, Investigators and an array of other emergency personnel soon arrived on the scene however by 1:00pm the suspect had managed to escape from the area, slipping through the dragnet.

Police were unable to obtain a license number for the vehicle which was used in the burglary and had no detailed description of the person driving, and the suspect who fled the home was dressed in dark clothing and wearing a bandana.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
