THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A HARD FREEZE WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM CST FRIDAY.

* TIMING…TEMPERATURES WILL FALL TO 15 DEGREES OR BELOW AFTER MIDNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT.

* TEMPERATURES…WILL FALL INTO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE TEENS THURSDAY NIGHT.

* IMPACTS…TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS MAY CAUSE WATER PIPES TO RUPTURE…AND POSE A THREAT TO SENSITIVE VEGETATION AND LIVESTOCK. THESE CONDITIONS ARE ALSO POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS TO PEOPLE AND PETS WHO ARE VULNERABLE TO THE COLD.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED…ISOLATED HIGHER TERRAIN LOCATIONS MAY SEE VALUES DROP BELOW ZERO AFTER SUNSET TONIGHT. OTHERWISE…WIDESPREAD WIND CHILLS WILL FALL BELOW ZERO PRIMARILY BETWEEN 9 PM AND 3 AM ACROSS NORTHEAST ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE…AND COULD LINGER TIL SUNRISE.

* WIND CHILL VALUES…5 DEGREES BELOW ZERO TO 5 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO…WITH VALUES AS LOW AS MINUS 8 IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS. WIND CHILLS SHOULD IMPROVE APPROACHING SUNRISE AS WINDS SLACKEN.

* IMPACTS…PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO COLD TEMPERATURES AND VERY LOW WIND CHILLS COULD BECOME A HEALTH HAZARD TO BOTH PEOPLE AND ANIMALS.
