Chattooga County Clerk of Court Lann Cordle has submitted his resignation.
Cordle announced recently that he had mailed that resignation to the Governor Nathan Deal after more than 40 years on the job.
He was first elected in 1972 and was quoted as saying “I’ve been here a long time and it’s time to retire.”
Cordle stated that he had mixed feelings after having served in the job his entire adult life but added that he had always heard that a person knows when it is time to retire, and according to Cordle “it’s time.”
Cordle will remain in office until January 31, 2014.
After that time the Deputy County Clerk, Debbie Floyd, will serve until an election can be held to fill the vacancy.
