Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene of a fatal wreck involving a tractor trailer on I-59 in Ft Payne early Wednesday.

Authorities say that the accident took place near mile marker 229, and they’ve confirmed that the driver of the rig was killed in the crash, which took place at 2:40am.

He has since been identified as 43 year old Richard Garrett of Ripley, Mississippi.

No other vehicles were involved.

A HazMat team was dispatched to the scene following the crash with a significant portion of I-59 being closed for a considerable length of time as the clean-up crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
