The Alabama Department of Public Safety has released the figures from this years Thanksgiving Holiday travel period.

Over the course of the four-day holiday travel period – from 6:00pm Wednesday November 27th through midnight Sunday, December 1st – Alabama State Troopers investigated a total of eleven traffic deaths in eight separate accidents.

Those fatal crashes occurred in Russell, Madison, Crenshaw, Walker, Autauga, Barbour, Pickens and Talladega counties.  According to preliminary investigations, alcohol was a factor in at least three of the deadly events, and seven of the eleven individuals killed were not using seat belts.

During the same holiday travel period in 2012 troopers investigated five traffic deaths.

According to the Jacksonville Post of the Alabama State Troopers a Sylacauga man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Monday of this week (December 2nd).

56 year old George Griffith was fatally injured when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree on Oldfield Road, just outside the Sylacauga city limit – around 2:30 that afternoon.

The cause of that crash remains under investigation.
