Area runners laced up their shoes for a good cause Saturday.
The 1st annual Cherokee Rock Village 5K-Fun Run and Walk was sponsored by the Cherokee Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care Support Group.
WEIS Radio spoke with Margaret Eubanks about the event.
Finishing first Saturday with a time of just over 24 minutes was Steven Chesnut, who teaches math at Sand Rock High School.
We spoke with Chesnut at the finish line and got his thoughts on the event.
Saturday’s event was one of the events leading up to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Silent Auction, which is coming up September the 28th at the Cherokee Health and Rehab Activities and Education Building.
Eubanks says they have raised about 5-thousand dollars so far and she would like to raise about 2-thousand more.

The Cherokee Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care Support Group has raised 25-thousand dollars in the last 3 years for Alzheimer’s research and support programs.
