The final of three public hearings regarding a proposed property tax increase in Chattooga County will be held on Monday.
Last week, a group of between 40 and 50 area residents showed up to voice their opposition to the proposed property tax increase put forth by Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters.
Two hearings were held last Monday at the Chattooga County Civic Center with roughly the same number of people attending each session.
Winters has proposed raising the millage rate for property owners in the county – to what would amount to an increase of just over 19%, saying that move is necessary to continue to fund county services.
Monday’s third and final hearing on the matter will be held at the Civic Center, starting at 4:00pm.
