The Cherokee County Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve a 25-percent match for a “Cops Helping Schools” grant.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says, if approved, grant would provide $123,000 over three years to pay the salary and benefits for a school resource officer.

Superintendent Mitchell Guice says the local match will be for up to 22-thousand 500 dollars a year.

In other action Tuesday, the board reviewed a proposed policy concerning sex offenders on school system property.

The policy states that NO convicted sex offender shall be allowed on or within 500 feet of a Cherokee County Board of Education school, child care facility, playground, park athletic field or facility or school bus stop.

The policy will sit on the table for review for 30 days before final adoption.

The Board of Education Tuesday also granted the superintendent the authority to hire additional Summer School teachers as needed and approved a breakfast price increase of a quarter for the 2013-2014 School Year.
