FORT PAYNE– The Children’s Place plans to close its Fort Payne distribution center permanently on Jan. 5, 2027. The company expects to lay off all 593 employees at the facility, according to WAFF.

In its letter to employees, the company cited financial difficulties, WAFF reported. The distribution center on Airport Road West opened in 2007.

WAFF also reported that DeKalb County Economic Development Director Brett Johnson confirmed the notice was legitimate. Johnson told the station the planned closure is a blow to the local economy, especially ahead of the holidays.

Meanwhile, Johnson said local and state officials would work to support affected employees. Officials also plan to help workers find other jobs in Fort Payne and across DeKalb County.
