Alabama Fire College Remembers Chief Reid Vaughan’s Lifetime of Service

CUBA– The Alabama Fire College is remembering Cuba Fire Chief Christopher Reid Vaughan’s decades of service. For more than 30 years, he served his community and supported fellow firefighters.

Vaughan, who served as section chief of regional services at the Alabama Fire College, died Nov. 3, 2026.

In a statement, Executive Director Matt Russell described Vaughan as a trusted colleague and respected fire service leader. He also said the loss reaches beyond the college’s staff to the broader fire service.

Vaughan began as a young firefighter in Cuba. He later led the Cuba Volunteer Fire Department, following his father and great-grandfather in that role.

At the Fire College, he also supported firefighters and departments across Alabama. According to Russell, his leadership helped shape training, benefits, and advocacy for volunteer firefighters, with his voice reaching the national level.

Russell also recalled Vaughan’s belief that “jurisdictional lines cannot define it, only people.” He said Vaughan lived that belief every day.

Meanwhile, the family’s tradition of service continues through Vaughan’s daughter, Ashlynne. The statement describes her as carrying that commitment into a fourth generation.

Russell extended sympathy to Vaughan’s wife, Rindy; daughter, Ashlynne; mother, Karen; brother, Casey; and their family. He also offered condolences to the Cuba Volunteer Fire Department, the Town of Cuba, and Vaughan’s Gateway Community Church family.

In addition, the statement recognized the firefighters and fire service leaders who knew Vaughan as a mentor and brother.

“Reid described service as a calling, and he answered it faithfully,” Russell said.

Ultimately, the Fire College said Vaughan’s legacy will continue through the firefighters he trained and the departments he strengthened. His community, too, remains part of that lasting legacy.
