Two in Custody After Running From Sand Rock Traffic Stop

SAND ROCK– Two people wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement are in custody after running from a Sand Rock traffic stop Friday morning.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated the stop just before 8 a.m. October 23. The stop took place at the four-way intersection of Sand Rock Avenue and Lookout Street, near the school.

The two people then exited the vehicle and ran. A deputy took one person into custody. Authorities then brought in drones and additional personnel to help apprehend the second.

The response brought a noticeable law enforcement presence to the area.

Meanwhile, Sand Rock School went into a soft lockdown as a precaution. However, neither person entered school property.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that both are now in custody. The office also confirmed plans to transfer both to ICE custody.
