SAND ROCK – Alec Ashley completed 13-of-20 pass attempts for 207 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 72 yards on 10 carries with two more scores in leading the Sand Rock Wildcats to a 34-13 homecoming football victory over Section on Friday.
Nick Clanton collected 109 yards on 16 carries with a score for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-1 Class 2A, Region 8).
Ashley put Sand Rock out in front with his 27-yard touchdown pass to Lathan Amos in the first quarter. The extra point was no good.
Amos led the Wildcat receivers with 82 yards on five catches with two scores. Ryker Woodall caught four passes for 66 yards.
Section (1-2, 0-2) took the lead on Kalem Whitmire’s 3-yard touchdown catch from Hunter Lundy. The point after was good, giving the Lions a 7-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Lundy led the Lions by completing 6-of-8 pass attempts for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Sand Rock regained the lead on Ashley’s 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Ashley also ran in for the 2-point conversion, pushing the Wildcat lead to 14-7 at halftime.
Ashley added to Sand Rock’s lead in the third quarter on a 21-yard scoring connection with Amos and a 1-yard run to make the score 27-7. Clanton ran for 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Section added a late touchdown on a 57-yard run for the final.
Jack Dutton led the Wildcat defense with five tackles, three assists, and a tackle for loss.
Sand Rock plays at Collinsville on Friday.
