IDER – Mason McAteer accumulated 261 yards of total offense with six total touchdowns in leading the Collinsville Panthers to a 55-12 Class 2A, Region 8 football victory at Ider on Friday.
McAteer completed 12-of-16 pass attempts for 203 yards and three touchdowns. He also had eight carries for 58 yards and three more scores.
Sylas Adams was McAteer’s top receiver with five catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Adams also had three carries for 56 yards and a score for the Panthers (3-0, 2-0 Class 2A, Region 8). Gavin Lang hauled in four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Ider (3-1, 1-1) scored first on Cameron Alfrey’s 5-yard touchdown run to take a 6-0 lead, but Adams tied the game on a 52-yard touchdown run. Uriel Cornejo’s first of seven extra points made it 7-6 Collinsville. A McAteer-to-Lang 24-yard touchdown pass extended the Panther lead to 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
McAteer connected with Adams on a 6-yard touchdown toss in the second quarter to make it a 21-6 game. Ider’s Braxton Traylor had a 23-yard scoring run to cut Collinsville’s lead to 21-12, but that would be as close as the Hornets would come as the Panthers closed out the game with 34 unanswered points.
McAteer added a 1-yard touchdown run and a 43-yard touchdown pass to Adams to push the Panther lead to 35-12 at halftime. McAteer opened the third-quarter scoring with touchdown runs of 5 and 10 yards. Kyler Beene scored Collinsville’s final touchdown late in the third on a 15-yard run.
Collinsville hosts Sand Rock on Friday.
