CHEROKEE COUNTY– John David Green has been sentenced to life without parole for producing obscene material involving a 14-year-old child.
District Attorney Summer Summerford announced the sentence in a Friday news release. Circuit Judge Andrew Hairston imposed the maximum sentence allowed during a Sept. 10 hearing.
During the investigation, the child disclosed that Green had sexually abused her. Investigators then obtained a search warrant for Green’s cellphone and discovered videos he created depicting sexual acts involving the child.
Further investigation found copies of the same videos on a USB flash drive hidden at Green’s residence.
Previously, Green entered an open plea to the Class A felony offense of Production of Obscene Material. Following arguments from both sides, prosecutors asked Hairston to impose the maximum sentence.
The district attorney’s office said Green will serve the sentence without eligibility for parole.
Officers with the Cedar Bluff Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Children’s Advocacy Center of Cherokee County, and 9th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office contributed to the investigation, arrest, and prosecution.
Additionally, Deputy District Attorney Brady Burns and Assistant District Attorney Stanna Guice prosecuted the case.
Summerford said protecting children and punishing those who harm them remain top priorities for the community. She also thanked every agency and individual who helped build the case.
“It is a good day when we can say — Justice is Served,” Summerford said.
