JACKSONVILLE– The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking for public assistance after an apparent attempted break-in damaged K&S Grocery on Roy Webb Road.
According to the agency’s weekly “Calhoun County’s Most Wanted” update, deputies responded to the Jacksonville-area store on Aug. 26. A store employee said the damage occurred between closing time and the following morning.
Someone damaged the building’s north exterior wall, leaving a hole that opened into the store’s bathroom. However, deputies found no indication that anyone had disturbed items inside the business. The Sheriff’s Office estimated the damage at approximately $1,000.
For now, investigators have not identified a suspect or determined what caused the damage. The agency’s update also did not include a suspect or vehicle description.
Separate Pursuit Ends in Arrest
The same weekly report detailed a separate pursuit that ended with a wanted man in custody.
Around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 30, deputies patrolled the Oxford area while searching for Patrick Mullinax. Talladega County had an active warrant for him, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies then spotted Mullinax’s vehicle on Highway 78 and attempted a traffic stop. Instead, investigators said Mullinax accelerated and led deputies toward the White Plains community.
Eventually, Mullinax stopped the vehicle, left it, and allegedly ran from officers. Calhoun County deputies and officers with the Oxford Police Department pursued him and took him into custody.
As a result, Mullinax faces a felony charge of attempting to elude and a charge of resisting arrest. Those charges are in addition to the outstanding Talladega County warrant. The agency did not disclose the offense underlying that warrant.
The Sheriff’s Office credited its deputies and Oxford officers with bringing the pursuit to a safe conclusion.
All charges are allegations, and Mullinax is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The Sheriff’s Office advises residents not to approach or detain a wanted person. Instead, anyone facing an immediate emergency should call 911.
Previously, the agency has asked residents for help with separate property-crime investigations in Calhoun County.
