Despite not playing last week, the Collinsville Panthers (1-0) moved up a spot to No. 7 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings. The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.

Collinsville hosts Brindlee Mountain (1-1) to begin Class 2A, Region 8 play on Thursday.

Staying in Class 2A, the Piedmont Bulldogs (1-1) hold steady at No. 4 following their 26-6 victory at Cherokee County last Friday. The Bulldogs host Ohatchee (1-1) to open Region 6 action on Friday.

Two other area teams received consideration for this week’s rankings: Class 2A Sand Rock (1-0) and Class 1A Spring Garden (0-2).

Sand Rock won a 19-16 thriller over the Panthers last Friday. The Wildcats host Ider (2-0) on Friday in their Region 8 opener. Spring Garden hosts eighth-ranked Appalachian (1-1) in Region 8 action on Friday.

Other games being played within the WEIS radio coverage area this week include Gaylesville (1-0) at Valley Head (0-2), Cherokee County (0-1) at Hayden (0-2), and the Foothills Tractor Mahindra Game of the Week, Ragland (0-2) at Cedar Bluff (1-1). All games kick off at 7 p.m.
