At their August 25^th meeting the Centre City Council approved initial work on the Atrium Health outdoor basketball court project. Members tabbed Ladd Environmental to complete the design and engineering work ahead of another company laying the slab. A total of $15,500, billed incrementally, was allocated for the task. While a precise court timetable isn’t clear, council members expect quick construction once the slab is in place.

A foundation of Atrium Health builds courts such as these, which would also include two soccer goals. The city only pays for the pad underneath the court, and Atrium finances the rest. City officials have set the court’s location between the Mary George Waite Community Center and J.W. Hampton Park.

In other business the council approved a $10,000 donation to Coosa Valley Youth Services, the severe weather preparedness tax holiday, and the annual transportation plan. The later is a part of the Rebuild Alabama Act Grant Program and will allocate $45,821 of gas tax monies to the city of Centre for maintaining, improving, and constructing roads.

To improve the water flow when it rains, the council hired S&H Waterproofing for $7,481 to work on the Children’s Advocacy Center building. The company is expected to encapsulate the crawl space and prevent pooling water.

Mayor Pro Tempore Karen Yarbrough Slupe shared the qualifications for the new permit clerk. The new employee would not start work until October 1^st.
